What if "Someday" Never Comes: Join the Paris Group Trip

October 5, 2026

For years, I’ve heard some version of the same thing whenever I share my travels.

“I’ve always wanted to go there.”

“Someday.”

“When the kids are older.”

“When work calms down.”

“When I have more money.”

“When I have someone to go with.”

And I get it. Travel takes money, time, planning and, sometimes, a little courage. There is almost always a reason to wait. But lately I’ve been thinking a lot about how quickly “someday” turns into years. There will probably never be a perfect time to take the trip, which is part of why I decided to host one. Because there is nothing worse than looking back and wishing you had done more.

Recently, my 84-year-old dad told me how proud he is of me. He talked about all the traveling I’ve done and about the giant leap I took when I moved from Wisconsin to California. He told me I was the smart one for moving. And then he told me something that really stuck with me: he wished he had taken that trip to Italy.

He didn’t say this exactly, but I couldn’t help thinking that maybe part of what he admires is that I did some of the things he wishes he had done himself. I moved. I took the trips. And I don’t want to look back 40 years from now wishing I had done things differently.

That is exactly why I’m planning my first group trip to Paris, my favorite city in the world. Next May, I’m taking a group to Paris and Champagne, and I am genuinely so excited about it. Not just because I love France, although if you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you already know that part. I’m excited because I think this kind of trip solves one of the biggest reasons people keep putting travel off.

They don’t have anyone to go with.

Why a Group Trip?

I know group travel isn’t the first thing people think of when they picture their dream vacation. But hear me out.

How many times have you talked about taking a trip with friends and nothing ever happens?

One person can’t get the time off. Someone else doesn’t have the budget. Another friend wants to go somewhere completely different. Everyone agrees its a great idea, but then six months later, nobody has booked anything.

Or maybe you’re at a point in your life where you simply don’t have a built-in travel partner. That shouldn’t mean you don’t get to go. A group trip gives you the freedom to say yes without waiting for someone else. You can come by yourself, but you aren’t really traveling alone. You have people to eat dinner with, explore with, laugh with and take approximately 400 photos with until everyone gets the shot they actually like. And honestly, I think that might be one of the most special parts of this trip.

I did a group trip to Greece with complete strangers back in 2023. I was super anxious about the experience, but I honestly made some great friends I still talk to even three years later.

And I know it will be the same with this group. We’re going to start out as a group of people who may not know each other at all. By the end of the week? I have a feeling that will look very different.

Why This Trip Feels So Special to Me

I could have chosen a lot of places for my first hosted trip, but France felt like the obvious choice. Paris has become one of those places I keep returning to. I’ve visited enough times now that I don’t feel like I have to race around checking everything off a list. I have favorite museums, neighborhoods I love walking through, places I want to go back to, and plenty of opinions about what is actually worth your time.

I’ve traveled there alone more than a handful of times, so I am very confident in leading a group there. I’ve been there for work and for fun. And somehow, every time I leave, I am already thinking about when I can come back. It has truly become a second home to me.

So when I thought about taking a group somewhere, I didn’t want to choose a destination just because it sounded impressive. I wanted to take people somewhere I genuinely love. Somewhere I feel comfortable. Somewhere I know. And somewhere I would happily visit again and again.

This time, we’ll also be heading to Champagne, which makes the trip even more special because we get to experience more than just Paris. And I love the idea of sharing that with people who might be seeing France for the very first time.

Who Is This Trip For?

Maybe you’ve dreamed about Paris forever. Maybe you’ve been before and you’ve been looking for an excuse to go back. Maybe you want to travel, but planning an international trip feels overwhelming. Maybe you’re tired of waiting for your friends, spouse, partner or family members to finally be available. Maybe your kids are getting older and you’re realizing you can actually do things for yourself again. Maybe you’re in a season of life where you want to meet new people and have new experiences. Or maybe you just want to do something that feels exciting again.

You do not have to come with a friend. You do not have to know anyone else. And you do not need to be an expert traveler. If you want to experience France, meet new people, and have someone else handle a lot of the logistics, you belong on this trip.

And Can We Talk About the Planning Part?

I love traveling, but I do not always love planning every single detail of traveling. Hotels. Transportation. Reservations. Tours. Tickets. What neighborhood should we stay in? How do we get from here to there? What do we book ahead? Is this place actually worth visiting? It adds up.

And if you are normally the one who plans everything for your family, your kids, your work and everyone else in your life, there is something incredibly appealing about taking a trip where you don’t have to carry all of that. You get to show up, experience it, and enjoy yourself. That might sound like a small thing, but for busy working people like me, I know it isn’t.

Stop Saying Someday

How many things do we keep pushing off until “someday”? Some day I’ll go to Paris. Someday I’ll travel more. When the kids are older. When work is less busy. When I have someone to go with.

But what if someday never comes?

I don’t mean that in some dramatic way. I just mean that life moves really fast. Another year goes by. The trip you’ve been talking about for five years is still the trip you’re talking about taking. And at some point, I think you just have to go.

I have never come home from a trip and thought, “I really wish I hadn’t gone.” And I’ve traveled to more than 26 countries. I never regretted a trip. Not once.

I remember the places I’ve seen. I remember wandering around neighborhoods with nowhere I had to be. I remember the meals, the museums, the views, the people I met and the ridiculous little moments that end up becoming the stories you tell later. Those are the things I’m glad I said yes to.

So if Paris is one of those places you keep saying you’ll visit someday, I’m telling you: take the trip. You will not regret going to Paris. I promise. But you might regret waiting for a “someday” that keeps getting pushed further and further away.

So come with me next May. We’re going to Paris and we’re going to Champagne. We’re going to eat, explore, meet new people, and have a week in France that I have a feeling we’ll be talking about for a long time.

Maybe you come with a friend. Maybe you come completely on your own. Either way, you won’t be doing it alone. And maybe this is finally the year you stop saying someday.
