Moon Palace Cancun: Everything to Know Before Your All-Inclusive Stay

Our stay at Moon Palace Cancun was hosted. As always, all opinions and experiences shared here are my own.

If you’re planning a family vacation to Cancun and trying to find a resort that works just as well for older kids as it does for adults, Moon Palace Cancun is definitely one to consider. We recently stayed at the resort, and one of my biggest takeaways was how well it worked for our family, especially with tweens and teens.
At this stage of traveling with kids, my priorities have changed. I don’t need a resort built around little-kid activities anymore. I want somewhere my kids can have some independence, find things they genuinely want to do, and eat food they actually like. At the same time, I still want a vacation that feels relaxing and elevated for me.
Moon Palace Cancun checked a lot of those boxes.
From the huge pools and variety of restaurants to our spacious room and the sheer number of things happening around the resort, there was always something to do. We could spend time together without feeling like we needed to plan every minute of the trip.
If you’re researching Moon Palace Cancun reviews, wondering what’s included at the resort, or trying to decide whether an all-inclusive stay is worth it for a family with older kids, here’s what our experience was like.
Our Stay at Moon Palace Cancun
One of my favorite things about our stay was simply having a comfortable home base where we could relax between activities.
Our room overlooked the courtyard, with a slight ocean view in the distance. I actually loved having both. The courtyard made the room feel connected to the resort, while being able to see the water reminded me that we were still very much on a Caribbean vacation.
For families traveling with tweens and teens, having enough room to spread out matters more than you might think. Older kids need downtime too, especially after long days in the sun, and it was nice to have a comfortable space where everyone could recharge.
Moon Palace Cancun is also a very large resort, which is worth knowing before you arrive. There’s a lot to explore, but I think that size is actually one of its strengths when you're traveling with older kids. It feels more like a destination than simply a hotel.

Why Moon Palace Cancun Is Great for Teens and Tweens
This was probably the biggest surprise for me.
Finding a Cancun all-inclusive resort for teens can be tricky. Some family resorts are so focused on young children that older kids quickly get bored. Other resorts feel designed primarily for adults and don't offer enough to keep tweens and teens entertained.
Moon Palace Cancun falls into a nice middle ground.
There are pools, activities, entertainment and plenty of food choices, so kids can have some freedom without parents constantly having to figure out what everyone is going to do next.
And honestly, the pool was a major highlight for us.
The Pools at Moon Palace Cancun
The Moon Palace Cancun pools are amazing and were easily one of our favorite parts of the resort.
When I’m traveling somewhere warm with my kids, I know we’re going to spend a lot of time at the pool. Having a large pool area where you can actually settle in for the day makes such a difference.
At Moon Palace, the pool area felt like the center of the action. We could swim, relax and spend hours outside without needing to constantly move on to another activity.
This is another reason I think Moon Palace works especially well for families with tweens and teens. At their ages, they don’t necessarily need a parent orchestrating activities every hour. Give them a great pool, food nearby and enough happening around them, and they're pretty happy.
It also gave me the opportunity to actually relax, which is always the goal of an all-inclusive vacation.
What's Included at the Grand Moon Palace Cancun?
One important thing to understand when researching Moon Palace Cancun is that the resort has different sections and experiences, including The Grand at Moon Palace.
If you're comparing Moon Palace Cancun with The Grand, make sure you look closely at exactly what is included with the room category and resort section you're booking. Access and amenities can vary depending on where you stay.
In general, the appeal of the Moon Palace all-inclusive experience is having your accommodations, meals, many beverages and a wide range of resort activities bundled into your stay.
For families, I think this is where all-inclusive resorts really shine.
I love exploring destinations and trying local restaurants when we travel, but there are also trips where I don't want to think about every meal. With kids, three meals a day plus snacks and drinks can become both expensive and surprisingly time consuming.
At Moon Palace, we could decide we were hungry and simply go find something to eat.
That freedom is especially helpful with older kids because everyone isn't always hungry at exactly the same time.

Moon Palace Cancun Restaurants and Food
The food at Moon Palace Cancun was another highlight of our stay.
One concern I sometimes have about all-inclusive resorts is whether the food will feel repetitive after a few days. Having multiple restaurants and different types of cuisine makes a huge difference, and we really enjoyed the variety at Moon Palace.
There were enough options that meals still felt like part of the vacation rather than something we were simply doing because we needed to eat.
This is also huge when you're traveling with kids.
Tweens and teens can have very specific opinions about what they want to eat, so having multiple Moon Palace Cancun restaurants to choose from made meals easier for everyone. Instead of trying to convince everyone to agree on one type of food for an entire vacation, there were plenty of choices.
And because it's an all-inclusive resort, there's something wonderfully easy about being able to order what you want without thinking about the bill every single time.

Our Spa Experience at Moon Palace Cancun
One of the sweetest parts of our stay was having a little spa time.
Gigi got a facial and pedicure, while Rocco and I had massages. I loved that we could turn the spa into something we experienced as a family rather than it being an adults-only part of the trip.
As kids get older, travel experiences change. I’ve found that my kids are increasingly interested in experiences that feel a little more grown-up, whether that's trying a great restaurant, exploring a city or having a spa treatment.
Having those experiences together is one of my favorite things about traveling with them at this age.
If you're planning to use the spa during your stay at Moon Palace Cancun, I would look into appointments ahead of time, particularly if you're visiting during a busy travel period.

Is Moon Palace Cancun All-Inclusive Worth the Price?
So, is Moon Palace Cancun all-inclusive worth the price?
For families who plan to spend a significant amount of time at the resort, I think the all-inclusive model can offer a lot of value.
The key is thinking about how your family actually travels.
If your plan is to wake up early every morning, leave the property and spend the entire day exploring the Yucatán Peninsula, you may not take advantage of everything you're paying for at an all-inclusive resort.
But if you want a vacation where the resort itself is a major part of the experience, Moon Palace makes much more sense.
For us, the convenience was a huge part of the appeal.
Meals were easy. The kids were entertained. The pool was fantastic. We had plenty of opportunities to relax. And we didn't need to leave the property every day to feel like we were doing something.
When comparing the Moon Palace Cancun price to other resorts, I’d consider what you would otherwise spend on hotel accommodations, meals, drinks and entertainment separately. For a family, those costs can add up quickly.

Real Talk: Moon Palace Cancun Reviews From a Recent Stay
When I read hotel reviews, I’m usually trying to figure out what the property actually feels like beyond the professional photos.
My overall Moon Palace Cancun review is very positive, particularly for families traveling with older children.
The resort is large, so if you're looking for a tiny, quiet boutique hotel, this probably isn't that experience. There is a lot happening, and you should expect to do some walking and exploring.
But that's also exactly why I think it works so well for families.
There is enough variety that everyone can find something they enjoy. We loved the pool, enjoyed the food and restaurants, had a comfortable room, and appreciated having so much available without needing to leave the resort.
For me, the best family vacations aren't necessarily the ones where we're together every second. They're the trips where everyone has something they enjoy and then we come back together for meals, activities and experiences.
Moon Palace gave us that balance.

Where Moon Palace Cancun Sits on the Map
If you're looking at a Moon Palace Cancun map, you'll notice that the resort is located south of Cancun's main Hotel Zone and north of the Riviera Maya.
That location is important when planning your trip.
You're not staying directly in the heart of Cancun's Hotel Zone, which contributes to Moon Palace feeling more like a self-contained resort destination. It's also relatively convenient to Cancun International Airport compared with resorts located much farther south along the Riviera Maya.
I always recommend looking at the location of your Cancun resort before booking because "Cancun" can refer to a surprisingly large area. Travel times to excursions and attractions can vary considerably depending on where your hotel is located.
If you're planning day trips during your stay, map those out before you arrive so you can balance your resort days with your excursion days.

Can You Take Day Trips From Moon Palace Cancun?
Absolutely, and I actually think combining resort days with a few adventures is the perfect way to experience this part of Mexico.
We spent time exploring beyond the resort during our Cancun trip, including experiences like Isla Mujeres and Xenses Park near Playa del Carmen.
I love having that balance.
We could have a full adventure day and then come back to Moon Palace knowing the next day could simply be about sleeping in, eating a leisurely breakfast and hanging out by the pool.
With tweens and teens, alternating busy days with relaxed resort days also helps keep everyone from getting exhausted halfway through the vacation.
Is Moon Palace Cancun Good for Families?
Based on our experience, yes, especially if you're traveling with tweens or teens.
There are plenty of Cancun resorts designed for families with babies and young children, but finding somewhere that still feels family-friendly when your kids are getting older can be more challenging.
Moon Palace gave us the convenience of a family resort without making the entire experience feel geared toward little kids.
My kids could swim, eat, explore and enjoy some independence, while I could actually have a vacation too.
That balance becomes increasingly important as kids get older.

What to Know Before Booking Moon Palace Cancun
Before booking your stay, I would keep a few things in mind:
- Moon Palace is a large resort. Take some time when you arrive to understand the layout and where your room is located in relation to the pools and restaurants you want to visit.
- Research the different Moon Palace sections. Moon Palace Cancun and The Grand at Moon Palace can offer different experiences and access, so make sure you understand exactly what comes with your reservation.
- Make restaurant and spa plans early. If there are specific experiences you don't want to miss, don't wait until the end of your trip.
- Build in actual resort days. You're paying for an all-inclusive experience, so give yourself time to enjoy it.
- Bring your teenagers. This is one family resort where older kids can genuinely have fun.
Final Thoughts on Our Moon Palace Cancun Stay
Our hosted stay at Moon Palace Cancun ended up being such a fun part of our family trip to Mexico.
I loved our room overlooking the courtyard with that little glimpse of the ocean. The pools were fantastic, we really enjoyed the food and restaurant options, and our spa day gave us another memorable experience to share together.
But what stood out most was how easy the trip felt.
Traveling with tweens and teens is such a different experience from traveling with little kids. They want more independence. They have stronger opinions. They want activities that actually interest them. And, let's be honest, they definitely have opinions about the food.
Moon Palace Cancun gave us enough variety that everyone could enjoy the vacation in their own way while still spending quality time together.
If you're researching the best all-inclusive resorts in Cancun for families, especially a Cancun resort for teens and tweens, I would absolutely put Moon Palace Cancun on your list.
